The hike was following the McCallum Trail starting at the Visitor's Center

through the palm oasis, across an earthquake fault zone, through a desert wash,

and ending at the McCallum Oasis.   What was supposed to be a 2-miler, ended up

being a 4.5 mile hike...as we added the Moon Country Trail.

Easy to Moderate Hike...some ups, with about a 250-foot elevation gain.

Big Split Rock Slot Canyon

This is an easy hike with only a 100 foot elevation gain...about 5-6 miles round-trip. 

But if you are claustrophobic, this is not the hike for you...VERY narrow slots to enter,

and some rock scrambling.

You'll see from the pictures below.

 

Directions:  Take Highway to Mecca, Avenue 62 to end, turn right, then left onto Avenue 66,

left at Painted Canyon Dirt road (4 1/2 miles) to this site...on right side of Painted Canyon Road.

Doesn't look like there is an entry, but veer left to enter the canyon.
